End of the world story.
My Dad, what a guy, volunteered for the navy at 19, sorted out the nazis then went into teaching. He used to tell how a lad in one of his classes was removed by his parents. Turned out that the kids parents belonged to a cult that expected the imminent end of the world. They’d sold up and bought a shithole shack (redundant, as they already lived on canvey island). The day came and went without so much as a celestial trumpet blast.
