    Anyway.

    Government is misnamed!

They are not really there to govern, “control”, they are there to serve & protect the populace!

    Dave.

  • DrDave953 says:

With an unelected cabal of vested interests.
    The EU is a dictatorship!

The British government no longer governs but is merely “rubber-stamping” the diktats of the EU!

    Dave.

of course it does not matter where the radiation emitted actually comes from as long as what is radiated is equal to that which is absorbed. If that wasn’t the case we’d end up with huge differences in temperature between layers and that would be a low entropy condition that nature does not actually tolerate for long.

  • gerjanp says:

” it has no way of knowing which way that is (unless you think photons are pulled back to Earth by gravity)!”

There you go with the strawman argument again.

“and that the atmosphere radiates back to the surface on average what it absorbs of upward IR radiation.”

Is it you paternalistc left wing tendency that you interpret the above the way you did instead of as “what is emitted to the surface and what is absorbed from the surface are equal”?

  • drkstrong says:

“You have shown ……. IR radiation”

The moelcules absorb IR from the Sun and radiate it isotropically – both up and down. They absorb light from below and radiate it isotropically – both up and down.

It does not rediate all of the IR that it gets from below back down – it has no way of knowing which way that is (unless you think photons are pulled back to Earth by gravity)!

  • gerjanp says:

“The way that countries are begging to become part of it means that soem people think it a good thing.”

Yeah some people still miss their mummies and daddies and like paternalistic leadership, others, a growing number, are realising that hard won democracy is being whittled away.

comparison with USofA is fatally flawed in that the states still have some local legislative power.

  • gerjanp says:

    “Its actually radiative transfer physics.”

    Yes it is

” it helps to get the name right.”

I’m sure it does but I often cut words in this forum.

You have shown you don’t understand that any point in the atmosphere radiates isotropically and that the atmosphere radiates back to the surface on average what it absorbs of upward IR radiation.

“partially optically thin” does not make sense.

  • aodscarecrow says:

The only thing wrong with the unification of europe is that it the main purpose of the unification is the imposition a corrupt and privately run monetary system across the entire continent thereby giving the international criminal banking cartel the ability to uniformly enslave the entire continent to contrived and completely unnecessary debt.

  • drkstrong says:

Europe is forming a United States of Europe (hopefully, eventually). Is that any more threatening that the US forming a “more perfect union” 234 years ago?

The way that countries are begging to become part of it means that soem people think it a good thing.

  • drkstrong says:

Its actually radiative transfer physics. If you are pretending to know something about something it helps to get the name right.

Part of my thesis was on resonance scattering of X-rays in a partially optically thin ionized medium.

I don’t expect you to know what that means but it is radiative transfer physics.

  • gerjanp says:

“What is going on with the unification of Europe is a good thing”

“” – the world government is pure paranioa. “”

So what is it to be pure paranoia or a good thing?

  • gerjanp says:

“It radiates all of what it absorbes downwards … and radiates the same upwards.

First, those two statements are contradictory. ”

No contradictory at all. you need to do some radiation physics

I do agree it’s badly expressed but I didn’t think you’d understand “the radiation is isotropic and the downward radiation and the absorbed upward radiation are on average equal”

  • drkstrong says:

What is going on with the unification of Europe is a good thing – wish it would go more quickly with fewer neanderthalls dragging their knuckles into the 18th century getting in the way.

  • drkstrong says:

Did you read what you just typed?

It radiates all of what it absorbes downwards … and radiates the same upwards.

First, those two statements are contradictory.

Second, if it radiates the “same amount upwards” then it radiates half of it downwards which is what I said.

“it also emits radiation that O2 and N2 do not do so efficiently” …. and so. Every molecule that absorbs radiation eventually emits at the same or different wavelengths.

  • gerjanp says:

“CO2 is a greenhouse gas. That means it absorbs IR radiation (heat).”

Half truth it also emits radiation that O2 and N2 do not do so efficiently.

“More CO2 the more it absorbs and then radiates half of that back downwards.”

Wrong again it radiates ALL of what it absorbs back downwards funny thing it it radiates the same amount upward.

  • gerjanp says:

“The “tax on breathing comment” is merely a scare tactic”

No it’s hyperbole you do know what that is don’t you?

” – the world government is pure paranioa. ”

You obviously have not been keeping an eye on Europe it’s the prototype.

  • drkstrong says:

The “tax on breathing comment” is merely a scare tactic – the world government is pure paranioa.

Most CO2 is emitted by power plants and cars.

CO2 is a greenhouse gas. That means it absorbs IR radiation (heat).

More CO2 the more it absorbs and then radiates half of that back downwards.

Thus more warming. It is an observed fact, not a theory.

  • drkstrong says:

    What absolute drivel!

The Sun has nothing to do with global warming. Its output has not changed significantly in 30 years. It cycles between maximum & minimum every 11 years or so. If that is the climate driver why is there no 11 year cycle in the global temperature record?

Well there actually is. If you do a Fourier analysis of the global temperature data there is some power at about 11 years but its amplitude is only 0.02C so you can explain about 3% of global warming by the Sun at most.

  • AR15Truther says:

causes of ice ages remain controversial for large ice age periods and smaller ebb and flow of glacialinterglacial periods. The consensus is atmospheric composition concentrations of carbon dioxide, methane, changes in the Earth’s orbit around the Sun “Milankovitch cycles” Sun’s orbit around the galaxy, the motion of tectonic plates, wind and ocean currents; variations in solar output; orbital dynamics of the Earth-Moon system; impact of relatively large meteorites, and volcanism

Just in time for Obama to announce it, and it only cost the USA 100 billion dollars. Thanks Hillary.
Solar Cycle 24 , it is not be a good time to be a Canadian wheat farmer. The Funk crowd has us at over 744+ Spotless Days, so, it seems the only solar cycle which rose even slower than this one was cycle 6.
