Author: A NASA video from a time of great optimism about space exploration. The Apollo missions were completed and the Space Shuttle program was underway. How soon before cheap and frequent flights to space would allow the construction of O’Neal colonies and mining camps on the Moon? This visionary approach calls for tiered greenhouses in space and unlimited solar power beamed back to Earth… all before the year 2000!

Vietnam and Space Shuttle.
Vietnam distracted attention and funding, and caused economic problems that led to space ventures being cut back.
The Space Shuttle (originally supposed to work along with the Saturn V as the LEO to the V’s extra-orbital and heavy lift) kept us stuck at LEO, and because it was so limited, killed any grand visions and NASA got really, really boring.

Because private industry didn’t do anything to get into space. It still hasn’t done anything to prove that it’s definitely going to get into space. Government is proven, private is not, and the government should not stifle its efforts; private should up theirs.
Government should exist along with private industry in space exploration, but its the latter’s fault for not getting into it.
we could have done this, instead we have put our focus on this puny planet of ours and pretended it is everything known to man. WE SHOULD STILL TRY THIS!!!

Government.
Manned Space flight has been the exclusive domain of Government for last 49 years and this has caused stagnation. Fortunately that is about to change as privately owned companies like SpaceX will probably orbiting crews in the next few years.

You talk about taking a gamble! It’s a good thing Star Trek was discontinued. Otherwise, they might have actually started heading out there if their inspiration wouldn’t have been foiled
It doesn’t require a genius to figure it out… there are some kinda, half-ass necessary things. If there isn’t any air, water & food… then we’re not meant to live there. Death Valley is more hospitable during a midsummer heatwave… and it’s name is “Death”!
Also the Challenger disaster, which pretty much killed our spirit for a while there.
I was a little kid then. I mean, imagine- Battlestar Galactica (the original series), Star Wars and Start Trek reruns were my thing. NASA and the dreams of space were my hope, and then Challenger blew up. I cried for days. 
Things are not so good here because of crisis csused by stupid Americans who listen advertising and get all this credits which they can’t pay.
Also we have lot of corruption and all other bad things so many peoples just drink vodka because of pessimism.
So that probably would be Chineses.
back in the 70`s they didnt know usa would pass through economic crises, thats why they had so many optimistic predictions
if thinks continue going on like this we will see chinese colonizing mars before americans

But it sure seems to be good for Big Government who has to “fix” everything by gaining more power and “doing stuff” for people and for certain Big Banking who gets to make money off everyone’s borrowing while it’s really the Government who just creates the money from thin air.
I don’t believe in the “One Big Conspiracy” theory. But certainly the system is messed up.

actually the 60′s was the real deal….the 70′s were a tail ….60′s had sears roebuck…great service…they could have gotten to Mars…the 70′s were rust, the 80′s neon…the 90′s flanel…2000′s candles…the 60′s were TNT…with a little bit of purple kung fu…mixed in…

Well, dont sit around and start wimpering like a fag in your head… get a masters degree, be a scientist or such as “join” the space scientists and start doing the impossible and not sitting around like a douchebag whining WE DONT HAVE ROOM FOR PEOPLE.
just one massive unfixable problem with that… its too hard to make that kind of efficiency of air storage withing 1000 years without RUST. yes, rust. rust makes of 2 things. water, and wind.
BTW without rain, crops dont grow easily, and without the volcanic (plant sterroid ash) ash, there wouldnt be a very good amount of air produced so you basically would have to go into a building to get air…
they haven’t started this yet due to their being little financial gain, but space flight is increasing in efficiency and lowering its costs all the time, will be well within our life times
